It had always been my dream to study abroad. I looked at Facebook pictures of some of my friends who lived abroad and I wondered when my own time would come. It’s surprising I felt this way because I had been abroad to visit a number of times. I guess I just felt it would be super cool when I crossed from being the occasional visitor to a more permanent resident. *wink*

I applied for my US visa in April but was rejected. I was so depressed.
But after going through your post about your interview at the US embassy, and other people's experience, I decided to give it another try keeping in mind all d advices.

My top holiday destinations

Last year I went for an interview and I was asked to make a mood board of my top 4 travel destinations. During the interview, we were asked to make a presentation and explain why we chose those places. My top destination was India, Zanzibar, New York and Mars! Yes Mars, I wanted  to give the impression that I think outside the box. I told them the reason I chose India was because of their spicy food, Zanzibar for its natural beauty, New York because in that city 'there's nothing you can't do' and Mars because I believed there was much more to our universe than just the earth.

Why do we have unsuccessfull marriages?

Stroke his ego,  don’t ever deny him sex, keep the house clean, look good all the time, forgive him when he cheats, have male children for him. The list goes on. Just last week I was going through my newsfeed on Facebook when I saw a status update from a friend of mine which read something like this:

Hi, I am a newly married woman. I have been married for 2 years and I just found out I am about 7 weeks pregnant.  The thing is my husband and I have decided that we would have our baby outside Nigeria, most preferably in the US.

Why would you want to go to Kosovo?

I am a very curious person by nature, and I really love to understand social behavior. I find that reading blogs feeds my curiosity to some extent. I realize that blogs through its interaction power provides deep insights into the minds of people.

I want it fresh and smelly!!

I am tired of frozen meat! I really do not know what they do to the meat over here. It lacks the authentic meat smell. I could always tell the difference between goat, beef or chicken just by the smell of it. Over here, people do not like appreciate the smell of meat, and I think they put the meat through some processes so that it does not smell. I remember one time, I wanted to make Gizzard sauce, so I went to get some gizzards and if not for the familiar shape of the Gizzard, I would have sworn it was something else. It had no smell whatsoever.

My Vocabulary has changed!

So I realized that with every culture, different words may be used to describe the same things. There are some words I used to use that may have different or little meaning over here in America.

One day I was coming back home from library, and as I was waiting for the next train, I saw a lady walk by. You see there was something very 'Africanish' about her, maybe it was her hair, or the way she had dressed or how she carried her bag. I had a gut feeling she was African, and since I hadn't met any African I decided to walk up and talk to her.

Ever since I moved to the US, I realized that my appreciation for natural products has really increased. Maybe its because I am bombarded with all kinds of processed products so anything natural is a breath of fresh air.

As an African girl, I had grown up knowing and desiring what entailed beauty in the African Ghanaian context. Neck rings, gap tooth, hairy legs and curvy calves were some of the features that made any woman be considered as beautiful in Africa Ghana. Thankfully, due to genes I was blessed with very curvy calves and hairy legs. I got a lot of compliments on how beautiful my legs were, and that coupled with the soft hair was enough to get people staring admiringly anytime I wore clothes above my knee.

I have been receiving some complaints that I might get into trouble for using someone else's picture. Actually apart from comments of blog readers, my intuition tells me that it not right to just pick a picture from Google without permission from the original publisher.

Blog Visitior: I want to go back home

I came to the US about 7 months ago. I met my husband through a mutual phone and we courted over the phone. We got married back home in Nigeria after talking to each other for 5 months. After the marriage, the necessary documentations were made for me to join him.

Shout outs to blog celebs!!

Ever since I started reading blogs, I have been amazed by some of the things I read from commenters. Sometimes I feel some of theses people should actively pursue comedy as a career and I know they would very well be successful. There are days when I am very down, and just reading some comments on blogs helps me feel a lot better.

Things I miss about my country

So I know most times a lot of us concentrate on the negative or bad aspects of our country. I believe that there are so many things we are blessed with, and most times we do not recognize this till we leave and begin to miss those things.
