I asked a few people around me why everyone was clapping and they told me that it was for a successful journey. Well....
I wanted to take pictures of the tarmac after we landed but I was rudely cautioned by a man in uniform that it was unlawful.
As we made our way into the airport from the Tarmac via a bus, I felt a wave of shame. Shame at how badly my dear country refused to get the basics right.
How difficult is it to get the Air conditioning functioning in the bus especially since the weather was so hot and humid? The state of the airport itself was nothing to write home about.
Aside the very obvious infrastructural challenges, I found that uniformed officers themselves were breaking very simple rules.
Just because a guy behind me probably knew one of the immigration officers, he was made to jump the queue.
We defnitely have a long way to go as a country.
