It's movie time!!

I am a big lover of movies. In fact I could spend all weekends just watching movies and series. Just a drink and some snacks, and I would be fine. As for going to the  movies, I wasn't a regular because I could always copy new movies from friends for free.

The few times that I went to the cinema, I found that it was sometimes annoying as some people who had already watched the movie being played decided to be predict what would happen throughout the movie. It also seemed like some people didn't come to watch the movie at all, because they would talk loudly on the phone for a long time. Then there were those that would seize any opportunity just to make unnecessary noise. Even a simple kissing scene would get them shouting all the oooohhs and aaaahhs in the world.

I stopped paying to go to the movies after I started working. This was because my company would hire an entire cinema hall, complete with drinks and popcorn on the last Friday of every month. It was such a fun experience watching movies as a group.

Now the cinema experience here is completely different, and I find it boring sometimes. First they are so strict on putting your phones off that I sometimes switch it off before entering the cinema. Also there is a rule that you should not talk during the movie, apart from the occasional clapping during an awesome scene. I have witnessed a situation where a woman asked a group of rowdy teenagers to be quiet. They didn't mind her and they kept on talking. She just went outside to report them to the cinema staff who then came in and asked the teens to leave. I just advised myself after that.

Sometimes when watching an all white movie, I do not get their jokes, but when I find everyone laughing, I make sure to laugh along, because we all paid the same amount to watch the movie. Why should they enjoy more than me?
Oh yeah, and I watched a movie in 3D for the first time, I didn't really enjoy it, because the images were not as sharp as it would have been on a normal screen. There is just some tiny bit of blurriness anytime I watch 3D and I think the only time I would get to appreciate 3D is when I watch a horror movie with it. Yes I am a horror movie fan!
Also watching movies over here is more like something you do because you just want to watch a new movie. I know in Ghana it was more like a social event, and you normally go to hang out with friends, see people to gossip about etc. It is more of the socializing aspect than the movie itself.

All in all I enjoy the cinema experience in Ghana better, because I am more at ease. I really can do anything without the fear of being sacked!

Hey Guys what are your favorite movies? How do people behave in the cinema? Do you prefer going to the movies or watching at home?

  1. Well,Iove watching movies a lot too. In nigeria, goin to the cinema is more a social thing. Its like an 'effizy' thing,u knw like an 'aje butter' thing. U go there to hang out and feel among. I like to go to the movies occassionally, but I wld rada watch a movie at home cos its way cheaper and more convenient. I mean,u av to brave traffic, get a cab or drive down there, buy movie ticket for N1,500($10),buy popcorn and drink etc. Abeg, its nt sumtin u do all d time cos of the expenses and stress involved jo. On my birthday(sept. 7),I went to the cinema and saw the movie' we are the Miller' and it was nice though.

  11. Did you get to see world war Z? Now, that was awesome! Yeah some theatres are different from others but if you live in an upscale area and are willing to pay more, you will find a decent crowd of moviegoers who would not be talking back at the screen and so on. Some movies are best enjoyed in the comfort of your home. So, best advise, if the actors aren't Anjie, Brad Pitt, or one of your fave actors, skip whatever movie it is at the box office. Sometimes the movie trailers are deceiving and when you get to the cinema to see it, you find out, you just got punked out of almost $15.00. No use throwing your popcorn at the screen, happy viewing.

    1. Yes the popcorn!! It took me a while to learn how to ask for the sugar one. Apparently they don't call it sugar popcorn. They call it the kettle popcorn or sweet popcorn. The one without sugar/salt is called the regular popcorn. So please next time ask for the kettle or sweet popcorn

  13. If you want to watch a 3d movie ask for the kids glasses, you will not experience the blurry feel again. and always read movie reviews before you go to watch it cos not all of them are worth wasting money for when you can watch online for free.
