Are you better off in Africa?

Hi Guys, sorry I have not been blogging for some time. Like I mentioned earlier I am in Texas for a short visit and I left my laptop so I have to do with blogging with my phone which is not the easiest task.

Do people retire in America?

I would be going to Texas in a few hours and I as I was packing I started to think the various stages I would have to go through at the airport.

What is all this?

So I made a quick dash to the grocery store to get some stuff and this is what I find as soon as I entered!

Lets get talking: I dream of.............

So I just want to start this section where we talk about our dreams and aspirations. I find that most young people have a lot of plans and visions for their future. Most times it just ends up being a forgotten idea. In this section I would like us to open up and talk about our inner most aspirations and the actual steps we are taking/not  to get to where we want to be.

TGIF: what are your plans for the weekend?

It's   Frrridayyyyy!!!

For some of us it is just another regular day. For others it is the last day of work for the week. For some too it is time to distress from the weeks activities!

I amost got arrested

I took a lot of public transportation before getting my license, and I enjoyed most aspects of it. After some time the novelty of the experience started wearing off, and to me, it became just a means to move around because I couldn't drive.

Begging the American Way

Prior to coming to America, I used to think that the developing nations were the only places with beggars. I thought in the developed world, at least everyone had a decent job and a place to call home. Boy, was I wrong. People actually beg for money here just like in Africa. And they are a lot too.
Most times you see them with placards telling you why they need money. I have seen quite a few interesting ones and these are the ones I remember:

RACISM STILL EXISTS IN AMERICA :(

On my birthday, hubby and I decided to go on a road trip to California. This was about a 16 hours journey so we knew we would definitely have to stop and sleep over somewhere. We set out late afternoon and by night time we were still in our state(OR). Now as some may know Oregon is a predominantly white state and most of the few blacks are concentrated in the big cities. By now we were on the outskirts of Oregon, and with our fuel on a low level we decided to stop by the next town we see.

Nobody don't care!!

I remember how in Ghana the struggle to be relevant is so prevalent. Its like we were always worrying about our looks, our possessions and even the kind of people we hang out with. Everyone wanted to get the latest everything from hair, to phones to clothes, actually everything.

Lets get talking: Why do we visit blogs?

I cant tell when I started visiting blogs, but I know the first blog I heard of was Bella Naija. I was just captivated with everything about that site, especially the way the commenters interacted with each other. It was very easy to get addicted right after my first visit. Then I got to hear of LIB, and I went there because of how fast she updated news feeds. Now I visit a lot of blogs daily, its like I don't feel right without reading from blogs.

Public Transportation

In Ghana, I didn't really have a car of my own, even though I drove occasional. My dad would lend me his car especially when I was in school. His workplace was very close by my university so I would go there anytime he was around to take his car so I would cruise on campus.
When I started working, I was lucky enough to have a colleague who always drove by me house, so I would join him to and from work everyday. Sometimes I missed my 'ride' because I woke up late.

It's movie time!!

I am a big lover of movies. In fact I could spend all weekends just watching movies and series. Just a drink and some snacks, and I would be fine. As for going to the  movies, I wasn't a regular because I could always copy new movies from friends for free.

Can we keep it civil here?

Hi blog readers,  as most of you know, I have not been blogging for long, in fact I only started a little over a week ago. It's been very hard reading some comments, but I guess this comes with the blogging territory

I have followed a lot of other blogs and I know how negative things can get.. I appreciate all sorts of criticisms but I would like to appeal to every one to keep their comments void of insults or hurtful words.

Bringing out the achiever in you

I don't consider myself a successful person yet because there are certain life goals I have set for myself and I am no where near them. I however have experienced some small doses of success and I would like to share with you all.

When the list for our National Service came out, I was posted to a school to teach. Now that was clearly not what I wanted for myself, and my plan was to gain some experience in the corporate world. I started taking steps to ensure that I got a company in Accra to work with.

Accident Scene

So I was driving to the mall and right in front of me an accident happened. The accident happened so fast that I couldn't tell who had the right of way or not. All I remember seeing was a black SUV hitting a red Chevy. Both cars were driven by women; the black SUV by an American woman and the red Chevy by and Indian woman. The black SUV hit the other car so badly, that the red Chevy started spinning around. She almost came close to hitting me, had it not been that I had done some moves I see in action movies and stopped.

Blog Feature:The Monster within

“…Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me, all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever…. Am…”
Wham!!
The other half of her ‘Amen’ was yanked away as quickly as it was to pronounce the word. Eve’s face had risen to meet a slap that was as resounding as Adam’s deep-throathed voice saying “I Do”, on the altar.

Blog Visitor Shares US Visa Interview experience

" My brother has been living in the US for the past 13 years and I had always dreamt of visiting him. When I got admission into the university, he decided that he would invite me over since students were hardly denied Visas. My interview was in the afternoon, but I could not stay at home waiting, so I decided to go to the embassy. I waited for a long time in the scorching sun before being led inside. I was very confident before the interview because I had gathered all my documents. I had everything my brother sent me, and the night before my brother quizzed me through some of the questions. My only problem was that I couldn't remember a part of my brothers home address very well, I think the zip code was confusing me. But I knew this was not a problem as other documents like my brothers bank statement was valid.

Drink Fountains!!

Soft Drink fountain
I made a post about American dining here, but it was somewhat limited to dinning in restaurants. Now the American fast food experience is a totally different one, as you would see in this post.
Fast food over here really goes by its name, and it is not like some fast food in Ghana where you have to wait over 30 minutes for your food. First they have the drive-thrus' where you order your food and get delivery of it just be well, driving through. With no queue cars ahead of you, you can get your drive-through food in a minute.

Making the best career move in America

I was inspired to write this post when I saw a comment asking me if it was possible to get a 'white collar' job in the USA with African qualifications. My knowledge on the job market may be limited to what I have read and heard and I therefore inquire blog readers to give more information if possible.

Lets talk about heartbreaks

Eventhough the purpose of this blog is to share my US experiences, there are days where I have my thoughts on certain issues and I just want an outlet to let it out.
Today is one such day. I was watching a program about relationships and cheating and it got me thinking about my own experience.
I entered the university fresh, young and naive, and I didn't know much of the world. Prior to entering the university, I had a very sheltered life and I was very ignorant about men issues. I loved to fall in love, and when I did, I definitely fell with all my heart.
