Why would you want to go to Kosovo?

I am a very curious person by nature, and I really love to understand social behavior. I find that reading blogs feeds my curiosity to some extent. I realize that blogs through its interaction power provides deep insights into the minds of people.

Anyway last time, I was reading through some posts on Nairaland, and a particular post caught my attention

'Please I want to go to Kosovo to hustle, any Nigerians with information about life there?

I clicked on this post desperately eager to read the views of other commenters. I found that the views were generally divided into two, those that ridiculed the poster for even thinking about a country like Kosovo and the others who were of the view that any country abroad was better than Nigeria.

At the end of the deliberations, the poster was convinced that Kosovo was the place to go, and that he would start making the necessary arrangements to get a visa and start a whole new life over there. Mind you, he had been warned of possible setbacks he would face like the language barrier, strenuous immigration procedures, weather, having no family around and having to deal with an unfamiliar terrain. His resolve was that he was a hustler and he believed that he could make it there.

So now I want to throw the question to you guys, what would make a young man who obviously has a strong drive, give up on his own country and decide to migrate to Kosovo. Is it the perceived notion that money grows on trees abroad, because I sure used to think that way when I was little? Is it that there truly is no other option to make a decent living in one owns country? Or is it just the quest to experience something new altogether?.

Now I would understand if people migrate to say the US, Uk, Canada, China etc due to the actual opportunities these countries have to offer, the least of which is education. I am just confused as to why a lot of people believe that if a country is in any other continent aside Africa, then it can be classified as a mini heaven.

I think a lot has to be done to change the mindset of the youth of Africa. Africa is fast becoming the next big thing because it is one of the few places that has untapped opportunities. I think it is time for us Africans to start believing and aspiring for the 'African Dream'.

I would gladly love to read your views on this issue!

  1. Truth is that, even the supposed US and UK that are flowing with 'milk and honey' are not friendly to immigrants especially illegal immigrants. So, now going to Kosovo, why would you leave certainty for uncertainty? I don't get it. Yes, a lot of things are wrong with Nigeria but hey it's way better than some of the strange countries Nigerians run to. So sad.

  5. Mario says;

    Migration isn't always about finding greener pastures. Sometimes a man has to leave his 'comfort zone' where there is little or no pressure to where he'd feel a sense of responsibility.

    At home people tend to expect wealth even when they never work hard to deserve it and when 'magic' doesn't happen..they sulk and complain.

    Send the same person abroad then you see a beast of a man. Because he has to pay his bills(a whole lotta them), he works his ass out, takes a second job if necessary, stays outta trouble and invests in himself.

    1. Me love your comment too much! You said it right. England makes a lot of Africans dormant. America could be the same but they are still both better, Maybe other places too. Overall, buyer beware, enough said.

  6. Kosovo? Hell no! Maybe norway,switzerland or even finland or iceland. Nigeria can't be that bad that you have to be thinking of goin to a place like kosovo. There's been unrest there too and u dnt even know wat u will meet there. Obviously the guy doesn't know much about the country either. As for me,I m goin to hustle in nigeria until I succeed cos there's no place like ur country.

  7. The leaders of Africa has swallowed people's opportunity to make it bt nevertheless, if he has read about Kosovo and thinks that's the place for him,y not? he shud go ahead.NOTE: there's no place without obstacles,its ur ability to stand firm that counts.
