Ok so I realized that right from childhood, occasionally some small whitish substance comes out from my throat. And they smell so bad they could wake a dead person up. I have always been fascinated by it so anytime it comes I smash it and naturally I smell it.
And after I am mortified by how bad it smells, I quickly wash my hands. At first I thought I was the only one experiencing it, until my little sister told me she also had those tiny stuff pop out from her throat.
I have not told anyone else about it, because I thought it was only in my family,but I am wondering if any of you have experienced it.
I had one right now and I just goggled it and apparently its called Tonsilloliths or tonsil stones?
So any of you experienced tonsil stones? How embarrassing and nasty is it?lol
My first time hearing about it.. Have you seen a Doctor about it to see if anything can be done to stop it? xx

DeleteI've never experienced tonsillitis, but, younger sister has. it's more common in children aged 5-15, and it's not usually serious. I suggest you see your doctor. There's no specific treatment for it but taking pain killers to relieve your pain, drinking plenty fluids and plenty of bed rest can alleviate the symptoms.

Oh yes!!! It happens to me occasionally too. Its nothing to be worried about, I have spoken to medical practisioners about it and dey all said its not harmful to the body. Its just a build up of mucus inside the tonsil pocket. Most times, mine occurs when I'm about to get ill (malaria, common cold etc). Just try not to press it wen it comes out cos of the nasty odour (I worked hard to overcome that too)

ReplyDeleteIts a very natural thing, though nasty - shouldn't be as embarrassing. But if its an issue for you, taking it off is very possible. Its the surgery process called tonsillectomy but you'd have to line up a few hundred burgers to keep up with weight loss

ReplyDeleteI get it too- though I haven't had it for a very long time. I usually noticed them after brushing my teeth and tongue. I would feel something at the back of my throat and once I got it out, it always smelled so bad. First time I thought it was bread that I hadn't digested properly and I was horrified- I love my bread. Very weird but I was also fascinated by the stench and would squish it and smell it. Lol! *covers face in shame*. I also once got it after sneezing really hard. I was worried and googled it and found that it wasn't such a strange phenomenon and it's apparently a normal process. Funny enough, since I became aware of what it is, I haven't had it as I used to and I didn't even do anything to stop it.
