My first flight experience

As a child, anytime a plane flew above me, I would always look up and follow the plane with my eyes until it disappeared. I had always been curious about aviation, and at a point in time I very well wanted to be a pilot. I find the airplane as one of the most fascinating inventions ever. I also used to spend a lot of time watching aviation documentaries on national geographic.

I had always imagined how flying would be like. Now my father was a frequent flyer, and upon his arrival from his trips, I would ask him how his flight went. Most of the time, he would just say it was long and tiring. I also had friends who travelled periodically, and every time I asked them how the flight was, they all gave very generic answers. But I wanted much more to feed my curiosity, and the responses I was receiving was just not cutting it,were they scared?, how did it feel like in the sky?, could they walk in the plane?, did they ever think the plane would crash?
I had the opportunity to travel by air, after I completed my degree and started working with one of the  telecommunication companies in Ghana. The nature of my job required some occasional travelling and I was very excited when my boss informed me that we were going to do a project in another city in Ghana, because I knew we would definitely go by air.
I made sure I fixed my hair right before the trip, because I wanted to look good for the airport. On the morning of the flight, I woke up very early, put on my best clothes and picked a taxi straight to the airport. I got there an extra 2 hours before my flight, and even at that I was panicking because I didn't want to miss my flight. I ended being the first  of my colleagues to get to the airport, and I kept calling them to hurry up because they might miss the plane. I had heard that airlines were very strict with their time.
After checking in and going through security, I started calling a few of my friends that I was about to travel, and that I would call them when I arrived.
Very soon, it was time to board the plane, and upon entering I had to find my seat based on the number on my ticket. I got a window seat ,and in a few minutes time everyone had boarded. The plane was getting ready to take off soon afterwards. It was announced that our phones be turned off before take off, and I quickly did that because I didn't want to be the one to bring the plane down. I started to look around to make sure everyone had obeyed that instruction, and I found that a few people were still on their phones. I kept 'eyeing' them and I almost reported them to the air hostess.  I just couldn't  understand, why cant they put their phones off?, why would they want something bad to happen?.
Very slowly the plane began to taxi, and I told myself that it wasn't a scary experience after all. All of  a sudden, the pilot made a U turn, and the plane started moving extremely fast, and I found myself holding the seat. Very soon the plane had started to incline into the sky, then I realized that we were no longer on the ground. My heart began to pound faster, as I was experiencing vertigo. You know that feeling when your heart jumps  when you speed on a sharp slope.
I kept on having that feeling until the plane reached its desired aptitude, after which the flight was smooth. It scared the hell out of me when occasional the plane passed through some rough cloud and shook a little, my mind would immediately go to all the air crash investigations I had watched.
Twenty minutes later, (lol my flight was only 25 minutes), the pilot announced that we would started declining and I heaved a huge sigh of relief. My first flight experience was almost over and I survived it.
After landing, I called my parents, sibling and friends to inform them that I had safely arrived and when they asked how the flight went, I simply replied that it was ok.

    1. To be honest with you, I think there are too many news blog out there, so maybe you should find other things to write about aside your articles.
However, I believe that you can be successful in anything as long you are persistent and patience, you just have to know what you are doing and what your goals are.
Hope I made a little sense, wishing you all the best

  15. Nice blog! Hv read all ur posts! Totally cool, I remember I was so excited because the only girl in primary3 then told us she open the window of the plane and fetched the clouds! Ahhhhh ahhh she was the only one who had such a luxury then, after some years my 1st flight was very very scary something and I even vomitted all over my mum! #covers face. Then I kept insisting I wanted to fetch my own cloud so I can show my friends, I cried all thru d duration of d flight as my mum tried to explain that you can't open the window. Ahhh I still tease my childhood frnd about her claim of fetching her own cloud. Nice blog, came here frm WC

  16. Traveling by air for the first time sure is an enthralling experience. Thanks for sharing yours! With what you've mentioned, it would be nice if your company had a private plane, right? Just like what Facebook's founder, Mark Zuckerberg did. They purchased a private jet for both personal use and to transport employees.
