Blog Visitor: Should I stay or leave to the US?

Hi TAC, I would be very happy if you publish this mail for me. I saw your adverts on one of the other blogs and I must admit that you are doing a wonderful job.

I am a young graduate of 28 years. After completing my National Service I had to stay home for sometime due to lack of a job. Within that time period, I started thinking of what to do, and I travelling outside the country was one of my options. I researched on a lot of schools, and even applied to some schools in Norway, because they had free education even for international students. Unfortunately I didn’t get admitted. I didn’t apply for schools in the US because I didn’t have the necessary funds.

I also pushed on with my efforts to get a job. Luckily, after a year and a half, I got a job as a sales rep for an FMCG company. The pay is just average but I know I can work hard and move up the ladder. After starting this job, a friend who knew about my desire to travel contacted me about some travel connections. He said he knew a girl that had won the VISA lottery, and that he could talk to her so the girl can file for me as her husband. I met this girl, and she is in her 30s. The plan was that I was to pay her some amount of money, we would get married at the registry and she would file for me so I move to the states.

The problem is I am confused as to what decision to make. On one hand, I can forget about travelling and stay at my company and work hard, with the hopes of moving up, whilst on the other hand I can ‘get married’ to this lady and start a new life in the US. I have discussed with my family, and they think that since I can make it abroad I should go with the lady. I am very confused and I would like some insights into my situation. Maybe there are some people who have gone this route and I could learn something from them. Thank You

  1. If d lady is Legit, I think you should go with her. Life is about opportunities and luck. Its not everyday u get sum1 willing 2 file for you. I say u do it fast before some1 else takes it from you. What do you have to lose? Nothing.

What's at stake here? Willing your life to her in marriage or just doing it for formality and then pay her off? Is it about being successful or just travelling abroad? If the first, what are your chances abroad?? And what have you gotta offer??? Hope not just your certificate kos u'd be so on a loooong thing. Make ya mail a lil more detailed

  3. My brother... Don't steal your inheritance for a bowl of soup. Marriage in the eyes of God is not something to be taken likely. The way you express yourself shows your passion and determination. Surely with these attributes you will succeed. Put your ears to the ground, don't put your life into someone else's hands. Let your success be yours and in your control. If something happens tomorrow between the two if you she can air out the dirty laundry.
You will make it if you work hard and you are patient... Good luck

  5. I just want to say,I hope u know living in america is not the key to success, wealth and happiness in life? U know its nt everybody in america that's living the 'dream' so to speak. Even over there,u might still av to struggle to make ends meet. I av heard people living in america complain about how difficult things are there, especially for an immigrant. But then, its ur choice and immigrants do manage to succeed there too. This woman u want to marry though for papers, how do you know she will treat you right once you get there,as in ensure u get ur papers? Bros,u av to think this thing through very well. And might I advice that you seek the counsel, advice, prayers of your pastor. Cos they can guide u in your plans so u don't work outside Gods will for your life. So many people have taken steps that have entirely ruined their lives cos they failed to seek counsel. Goodluck .

  6. I won't tell you yes or no, but tell you what is obtainable for you to make your decisons:

First, when she gets to America, she might go back on her words when she begins to face the reality of surving . What would happen to the money you paid her?

If she does file, the interviewers are trained to detect fruad. They have studied the Nigerian society and know what our marriage ceremonies are, and you are presenting only registry certificate? What about traditional/introduction pictures? and when you both were dating?

IF you succeed to get the visa, you would survive on the money you brought from Nigeria ,until you get your #SSN to work. Remember, she is not obligated to you. The struggle to survive would bring out some behavior in her that might offend you, but you must live together for 1-2 years before going for your interview, where personal intimate questions would be asked separetely. Like what is the color of the underwear she wore that day? What is the size of her underwear? What position does she like sleeping on the bed? Her best food etc.IF you succeed in getting your SSN, then be ready to pay her again.

While waiting for their #SSN, some people use other people's paper to work, they would pay some percentage to them. Or do menial jobs under the table were they are paid below the minimal wage. But when caught, the rest is history as they say!

The choice is yours to make. Best of luck.

  8. Forget all this immigration issue! I can't even belief anyone will contemplate a fake marriage in order to live abroad and be doing a security job or wiping old people's arse! Cus that's what u will be doing until u get some sort of education abroad.. And on the other hand who is to say u won't succeed in Nigeria??? I believe u can intentionally go into a life if sin and expect God's blessing. That is what u are doing! fake marriage is fraud of the highest degree therefore what ever u get in that path u need to take, only God's blessing comes without sorrow. Don't do it because u will definitely regret it!!! That's my two cents

    1. You do need to take some courses to do a security job, in the UK, don't know about the US ...its a far cry from the security jobs in Nigeria...don't downplay it..it is in fact a profession....;)

  9. I say think very and hard about this. I know you may think that people are against your travelling abroad. But as one commenter mentioned, America is not the key to success. Just hear me out.....if you have the funds to pay this lady, why not use it to start something small here in Nigeria.

There are plenty of people struggling with this issue. The worst scenario would be either the lady would make your life a misery in the sake of papers (you will literally become her slave and have to do everything she asks!), or she may actually go through with it but would then want the marriage to be ''real'!

Immigration will not take kindly to this if they should find out, and there may be jail term or banned for a lengthy period of time.

What people won’t tell you is that if it should go wrong and you don’t have any working papers, then you’d be worse off than a homeless person. Because you cannot claim any help for food, shelter, medicals or anything. My advice is - stay in your country and try to work hard. Not everyone that travels succeeds, but they would never tell you that. Some of them may be into some illegal activities, but to everyone back home ‘they have made it!’

    Don't do it!
